Ski Apache Announces November 29 Opening

Snow enthusiasts can take advantage of great conditions and new Stay and Play packages

With the first snowfall of the year blanketing the mountain, Ski Apache is set to open for the 2019-2020 winter season on Friday, Nov. 29 at 9 a.m.. Whether it’s hitting the slopes or flying down the mountain on the Apache Windrider ZipTour, there’s fun in store for the whole family in time for the holidays.

“We are coming off an epic winter last year and an incredibly fun summer, so we hope to keep that momentum going this season,” said Director of Operations Ken Marlatt. “We’ve got some great events planned and some new additions we couldn’t be more excited to share with the community, including our enhanced snow making capabilities that will help fill in some more edges when Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate.”

Ski Apache is best known for its mild winter temperatures and abundance of blue-bird skiing. The mountain’s high elevations, combined with its southerly latitude, gives the resort a unique advantage of seeing abundant snowfall but comfortable weather. It’s this promise of blue-bird days and superb snow conditions that lures skiers and riders from far and wide. The resort, owned by the Mescalero Apache Tribe, features 750 skiable acres across 55 runs accessed by 11 lifts and the only eight-passenger gondola in the state. Annual Torchlight Parade Returns to Ski Apache

Ski Apache is capping off the year with one of its most popular, free events of the winter season. The 12th annual Torchlight Parade will take place at the resort on Monday, Dec. 30 starting at 1 p.m.

Throughout the afternoon guests can enjoy live music, fry bread and hot cocoa on the patio of the Main Lodge. Then at dusk, the traditional Torchlight Parade begins. Torch bearing skiers will glide down the face of Capitan to the rhythm of a traditional Apache drum circle, leaving a trail of light behind them.

“The torchlight parade is one of our most beloved community traditions and we are excited to bring it back to the mountain this year,” said Ken Marlatt, director of operations at Ski Apache. Ski Apache Transitioning to Spring Operations

New Mexico Ski Resort closing for winter season after March 31

With the seasons in transition and the weather quickly warming, Ski Apache will be ceasing winter operations and making the switch to its spring schedule after Sunday, March 31.

Beginning April 1, guests can still enjoy the Apache Wind Rider ZipTour and gondola from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday until the return of summer hours.

“We’re thrilled we were able to see a much longer ski season this year,” said Ken Marlatt, Ski Apache director of operations. “But our base is shrinking and it’s now time to start looking forward to the warming weather and prepping the resort for summer activities.”

Season Passes on Sale at Ski Apache

Get a jump start on the 2019-2020 season’s stoke during Ski Apache’s $250 Season Pass sale March 18-25 at www.SkiApache.com.

Starting on Monday, March 18 a limited quantity of season passes will be available for purchase starting at $250, a savings of $550. Once all $250 passes have been sold, another batch of discounted passes will be released at the next price point. Pass prices will continue to rise incrementally through the end of June.

SKI APACHE TO HOST FILM PREMIER OF “ROGUE ELEMENTS” AT SACRED GROUNDS

MESCALERO, N.M. (TBD)—Ski Apache welcomes winter’s return with the premiere of the 2017 Teton Gravity Research film “Rogue Elements” on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. at Sacred Grounds Coffee and Tea House. Entry is free for season pass holders.

“Rogue Elements” features a staggering roster of athletes including Angel Collison, Ian McIntosh, the legendary Jeremy Jones, and so many more. The film documents these athletes as they scour the planet in search of the most rugged terrain the world has to offer. Join the Teton Gravity Research team as they embark on an adventure through last season’s unprecedented winter and witness the unimaginable.

Discounted Season Passes for College Students at Ski Apache

New Mexico ski resort offers budget-friendly winter season passes

ALTO, N.M. (TBD)— Ski Apache is offering 2017-2018 student season passes for $279. College students who purchase a season pass will also receive five discounted single-day lift tickets loaded onto their pass to be used at their discretion, as well as three reciprocal days at each of Ski Apache’s nine partner resorts.

“It’s important to us that Ski Apache is accessible to students who might otherwise not have the resources to hit the slopes,” said Justin Rowland, Director of Operations at Ski Apache. “For many, skiing and snowboarding aren’t just hobbies; they are a way of life.”

In order to purchase the full-time college pass, students must present proof of Fall 2017 registration or schedule, as well as a valid student ID. Undergraduate students must be taking a minimum of 12 credit hours and Graduate Students a minimum of 9 credit hours and must present a letter from the school’s Bursar’s Office to qualify.

Ski Apache Brings Back Party On The Mountain

New Mexico ski resort celebrates the season with funky music, discounted season passes and more 

MESCALERO, N.M. (TBD)— Party on the Mountain, Ski Apache’s annual send-off of summer and celebration for the upcoming winter season, returns Saturday, Oct. 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year’s event features a slew of exciting activities for the entire family, as well as a final opportunity to purchase discounted season passes for the 2017-2018 ski season, starting at $279.

“We’re all about providing fun for the whole family here on the mountain,” said Justin Rowland, Ski Apache’s Director of Operations. “Party on the Mountain is our way to celebrate everything summer while getting pumped up for the upcoming winter season..”

Party on the Mountain will feature live music by Albuquerque-based funk band ‘Merican Funk, as well as local favorite Jones & Miles. There will also be bounce houses, delicious food, gondola service, zip-lining, mountain biking, disc golf, hiking and a variety of outdoor games. Ski Apache Seeks Mountain Hosts

New Mexico ski resort is looking for volunteers

ALTO, N.M. (TBD)— Ski Apache is seeking individuals interested in volunteering as Yellow Vest Mountain Hosts this winter season. Mountain hosts donate their time by assisting the ski resort in areas such as speed control, guest services, and hot cocoa distribution. In exchange, Ski Apache provides benefits such as lift tickets, discounts, and other mountain perks.

“We are looking for people who love to ski or snowboard and enjoy giving back to the community,” said Justin Rowland, director of operations at Ski Apache. “Yellow Vest Mountain Hosts are an important part of the Ski Apache team as they help to keep our guests safe and informed.”

People with flexible schedules, who can ski or ride, and demonstrate a great attitude are encouraged to apply. Applicants should also note that they will be on their feet or skis for most of the day.

Ski Apache Resumes Mountain Bike Operations

MESCALERO, N.M. (TBD)—Ski Apache announced they will resume mountain bike operations for Thanksgiving weekend Friday, Nov. 24 and Saturday, Nov. 25. Mountain bike operations at Ski Apache will continue every Saturday while conditions allow.

Ski Apache’s 5.5 miles of mountain bike trail travels under the majestic Sierra Blanca Peak from the top of the gondola to the base area of Ski Apache. The trail grade varies between six and eight percent and features an exciting range of terrain and adventure.

The price for an all-day pass is $27 for adults and $21 for children 12 & under. Half-day passes are $20 for adults and $15 for children 12 & under.
